- SHARING STORIES THROUGH WORDS AND IMAGES -
26 April 2019
We start and end together as one, in love forever.
I was one of the lucky kids growing up in rural Australia who spent their September school holidays every year at the local Pony Club. Long days in the saddle with friends, late night whispers amongst creaky shearers stretchers and creating some of my fondest childhood memories.
So imagine my excitement when I discovered that another great story originated from Pony Club days; the story of Brigid & Will.
Despite only living 100km or so apart with Brigid at Bollon and Will at St George, these two attended the same events and had mutual friends over the years - yet somehow never crossed paths.
It wasn’t until a few years ago that their boys brought them together when they were attending the same Pony Club. And, here we are blogging about their wedding day.
Planning a wedding on top of raising three boys, running a business and your day job is a huge task. These two took that next level when they decided that there was only one choice when it came to the perfect location for their big day; their home.
It is hard to believe that this grand old home was once the Clifton RSL Club. Salvaged by Will and relocated just outside the charming township of Bell to their picturesque address at the foot of the Bunya Mountains.
I believe that one of the most important choices when organising a wedding is to surround yourself with the right people and these two did just that.
Brigid chose a trio of her nearest and dearest, a group of girls she grew up with amongst the red dirt and has shared over 30 years of friendship with. The strength of the bond between these girls is undeniable.
Will chose his three brothers to stand beside him and even with getting ready at the local pub, they ensured Will was on time, looking sharp and the esky was full. These were a band of brothers providing plenty of laughs, entertaining speeches and standout dance moves despite the absence of their late brother.
A wedding day is all about the bride and groom right? Usually yes, but there were three people that stole the show; Sonny, Charlie and Harry.
One of my favourite moments from the day was during the ceremony. The three boys joined Brigid and Will in front of their loved ones and took turns in reading. As they stood together, and held each other tightly - everything else just fell away. The surroundings of rolling hills faded, the presence of 150 guests disappeared and in that moment it was simply about them; a family of five and their abundance of love and happiness.
After a hilarious session with the bridal party, we finished in a spot where the newlyweds could soak up the sunset whilst overlooking the place they called home.
The reception was in full swing upon our return and after a quick change of footwear from heels to glow-in-the-dark sneakers - the bride and groom were ready to party.
Curly on the decks was pumping out the tunes, the canapés and drinks were aplenty and just when you thought the day couldn’t get any better, they took to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife. I know what you are thinking, pretty standard stuff. It was the choice of song that will be hard to top; ‘Islands in the stream’, by Kenny and Dolly.
Congratulations B & Will and thank you for the opportunity to share in your wedding day and this very special milestone for your family.
I wish you a future where your love is like ‘Islands in the Stream’; beautifully timeless, a duet like no other and a little legendary.
